Week on the Run: Day 3

Just passed the end of day 3 of 7.  Unfortunately, kind of flubbed today - everything said and done, I'm now a couple hours behind pace for the week. Just more of a challenge for the coming days, I guess.

Part of the reason for falling behind comes down to catching up.  Things like laundry are easier and cheaper to do at home, and are an unfortunate fact of life.  Some extra time spent catching up on sleep also chewed up a couple hours.  After running on about 5 hours a night for a few days, that seemed important.

What time I did clock today went into class, of course, a little mindless wandering, and a good chunk into a good Dungeons and Dragons session.   Sticking a handful of nerds around a table is always a long, enjoyable experience, and this was no exception!

I'm planning to finally go see a couple of movies I've missed tomorrow, which ought to help, both with time and with knowing what the hell everyone is talking about.  Camera is also charged and ready to go, and all the marvelous fluffy snow we've gotten out to be good for a few photos, since it's not been good for anything else.

No photo today :(

Week on the Run: Day 2

I'm again ticking off the last handful of minutes before heading home for the night.  As I figured yesterday, 12 hours was pretty close to the minimum for today - between classes and work, today was already pretty full again.  I'm tired - more because of staying up too late than anything - but I'm already excited for tomorrow.  It's the first day where 12 hours really means doing a lot more than normal.

Since nothing too remarkable happened today in regards to new experiences, it's going to be a short entry.  I'll throw in a photo I snapped wandering on campus tonight, though.  As you can see, the weather is going downhill quickly.

Week on the Run: Day 1

Right now, I'm most of the way through day one of seven in my "away from home" challenge.  I've got another few hours to go, but it's an easy coast at work, and I should hit my 12 hour mark dead on.

To be honest, this first day has been pretty easy, which is both a blessing and a curse.  I expected Sunday to be one of the more difficult days to fill, as there is rarely much to do.  With work filling up almost 8 hours, though, it was much more manageable.  A quick shopping trip for essentials (TP is a non-negotiable need), grabbing a leisurely cup of coffee at the mall, and a fairly enjoyable play* filled out the rest of the day.

With that off my plate, I have a chance to look forward a day or two.  Tomorrow is already pretty full - school, work, and then another blog post from...somewhere...ought to fill it up.  Tuesday is going to be when things get interesting - with my only existing commitment being 3 hours of classes in the morning, I need to find a lot to do.

I'm still deciding how I feel about "banking" time in either direction - that is, more time out one day in exchange for less on another, instead of aiming for 12 hours every single day.  I probably should have sorted that out for sure before I started, but since my only commitment is to myself, it's not too bad.  I think I'm going to allow myself to bank extra time out if it happens (which should give me some flexibility to do things like laundry), but no running a debt.  I have to always be on the positive side of life the balance.

Since day two starts soon, I'll cut this off here store any more thoughts for tomorrow's post.

*Harvest, written by a local playwright by the name of Ken Cameron.  If you're in Saskatoon, it's playing at Persephone until early November, and is really quite hilarious.

A New Start

I've decided to revive this blog after two years of gathering lots of dust and very little attention.  Hopefully I'll make it beyond one post this time!

A little bit about myself.  In many ways, I'm really not that remarkable.  I'm a 22 year old computer science student, paying my way through university with a job in a call center.  I enjoy a lot of typically 'nerdy' activities - computer games, playing RPGs with friends, tinkering with things to see how they tick, things like that.  I'm also quite interested in photography, and that's probably going to become even more apparent in future posts.  I also have a thing for good coffee, good books, and good conversations, and I'm always open to suggestions and combinations of those!

In light of not finding my life overly remarkable or interesting, I've decided to try a few week-long experiments with my life. I'm hoping I have the presence of mind to blog about them as I go, as I'm hoping to have some new experiences. Maybe something will stick, too, and be interesting enough to sustain.

First on my list is to stay away from home as much as possible.  I generally like the feeling of living out of a knapsack and being on the move most of the time.  If it weren't for the constraints of school and, to a lesser degree, my job, I'd be very interested in becoming a technomad.  With that out of reach for the time being, I'm setting my goal as spending less than half my time - waking or sleeping - at home for the coming week.

A quick guess looking forward - I'm going to come to love my netbook in the coming week, along with a good book and a travel mug that follows me everywhere.  My normal backpack is actually a camera bag, which I tend to keep well stocked, so I'm hoping to document as much of the week as I can in some fashion.
